Leibovitz and Sultan both share the comparison of photographing celebrites as well as influential people, however they both choose to use a different technique and style and that is what I will be contrasting. Before I begin, I will be sharing a bit of information on the two.

Annie Leibvoitz

Born October 2, 1949 in Waterbury, CT to her parents Sam and Marilyn Leibvoitz. When she became older Leibvoitz attended The San Francisco Art Institute, where she began to study painting. However, after a trip to Japan with her mother Marilyn, Leibvoitz and found a passion for photography and would further on that interest while taking night classes at the Art Institute. Her career took off when she landed a job in 1974 with the magazine Rolling Stones, that had just begun in San Francisco. Her first big shoot was with John Lennon and Leibvoitz would later on be named the Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone.

Larry Sultan was born July 13th, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY and moving to the San Fernando Valley as a kid, would have a large influence on how his style would be. He also attended the San Francisco Art Institute in 1973, sadly Sultan passed away in 2009 but he has left quite an amazing legacy not just through his works but also through the students he taught and his family. He was always striving to show in his photographs homelessness by taking away context from them. Which you will see in the examples I will be giving.
